Eva Yerbabuena
convenes a seminar on creation in flamenco dancing

The theory-practice days ‘Eloquence through Flamenco Language’ are to
be held September 7th to 13th, 2009 in Dos Hermanas (Seville, Spain)
It isn’t about learning steps, but rather
learning to create. The first seminar by Eva Yerbabuena entitled
‘Elocuencias a través del lenguaje flamenco’ (‘Eloquence through
Flamenco Language’) is born with this maxim. From September 7th to 13th,
2009, not just bailaores, but also specialists in the performing arts
are called upon to attend these theory-practice days which have been
convened by the company for the first time. The sessions, which will
take place at the Teatro Municipal Juan Rodríguez Romero in Dos Hermanas
(Seville, Spain), will be taught by a faculty which, besides the
Granada-born bailaora and choreographer, will include professionals of
stage and musical directing, among other areas involved in staging a
show.
Since it reached theaters over a century ago, flamenco dancing has
been much more than a sequence of steps and movements. Therefore, Eva
Yerbabuena wants to give the teaching of this dance genre a new focus.
The aim of her first seminar, ‘Elocuencias a través del lenguaje
flamenco’, scheduled September 7th to 13th, 2009 in the Seville-area
town of Dos Hermanas, is to offer students a global view of the concept
of creation. The syllabus thus includes all the subjects involved in the
staging of a flamenco dancing show, including not just the choreography,
but also the music, stage directing and lighting.

Each day will be split into two blocks. The morning one will be
devoted to practice, and turning the stage of the Teatro Municipal Juan
Rodríguez Romero into a classroom, will focus on the study of a
choreography in a different style each day and knowledge of its
technique through body movement. And the afternoon will be dedicated to
theory, through chats by prestigious professionals in fields such as
stage directing, musical directing, cante applied to theater dancing,
lighting and stage design.
The last session has been conceived as a
gathering of all the knowledge acquired during the week and a
round-table will be opened where both instructors and pupils can take
part.
Discovering vocations
With this new seminar model, which is projected as biennial, Eva
Yerbabuena hopes to encourage the discovery of vocations beyond baile.
The creator of shows like ‘5 mujeres 5’, ‘El huso de la memoria’ and
‘Santo seña’ considers that “professionals are needed” in those other
subjects that will be tackled in this special course which, edition
after edition, sets itself the challenge of progressing in its aims and
contents.
