Diego el Cigala and Tomatito, side by side at the 2009 Córdoba Guitar
Festival.

Under the slogan ‘40 Kilos of Art’, the Madrilenian
cantaor and Almería-born guitarist are touring Spain’s summer stage
circuit. After performing in cities such as El Escorial and Roquetas de
Mar, they made a stop at the Teatro de la Axerquía in Córdoba on July
2nd with a recital set within the bill which the Ommiad city devotes
each year to the six strings.
Setting aside their respective hits but not entirely,
in this new but classical show, both of them limit themselves to a
traditional flamenco recital, with one singing and the other
accompanying him in styles such as tarantas, soleares, tangos and
bulerías. Adornments are added to it such as boleros, hints of jazz and
touches of baile by José Maya.

The concert will soon be seen on July 25th at Madrid’s Veranos de la
Villa and on July 31st at Festival de Peralada.
But the dual performance was not flamenco’s only appearance on
the first weekend of the festival in Córdoba. The baile show ‘Tribute to
Mario Maya’, and the tocaor pas-de-deux between Niño de Pura and Manolo
Franco also contributed jondo flavor to the first days of the
outstanding musical event.
